Resident 🔐 Vehicle Security Reminder – Keyless Car Theft We’re reminding residents to take extra care if you own a vehicle with keyless entry. We recently had a car stolen in our area after offenders used a relay device to capture the signal from the key, which was not stored in a Faraday pouch. How to protect your vehicle: Keep your key fobs in a Faraday bag/pouch to block the signal.Store keys well away from doors and windows.Consider additional security such as steering locks, driveway bollards or home CCTV/ Ring doorbell cameras.Always check your vehicle is locked, even when using automatic locking systems.Taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference in preventing this type of crime. If you see anything suspicious, please report it via 999, 101 or online reporting tool. Vehicle crime often happens when people leave their belongings on display for others to see.
Remember, it only takes a few seconds for a thief to break in to your car or vehicle and steal your property.
Follow these simple guidelines to reduce the risk of you becoming a victim of this type of crime:
• remove all valuables including portable sat nav systems, mobile
phones and laptops, even if you’re only away from your vehicle
for a few minutes
• clean suction marks from your windscreen if using a portable
sat nav – these show a potential thief that it might still be inside
• don’t hide valuables in the boot or glove compartment as these
are the first places a thief will look
